TESTIMONIALS
Healing stories by Margaret Kyakunda Rukoza - Mubanda is a brilliant platform. I first came in contact with Margaret in the Summer of 2010 in London, U.K. by a phone call when I was at the tender age of 17. It was a strange call - but a call that uplifted my spirit in some way. I found out she was the older sister of my late father, Joram Ntungire Rukoza (1962-1992).
We started out communicating with emails - due to the time difference as she was based in Vancouver, Canada. She'll normally email me during the weekdays and give me a call on the weekends. We used to talk about many things-healing was on the subjects we came across. As time went by - we discussed my past and the events that took place to get me to the position I was in at that time.
To my surprise, she pointed out - the absence of my father not being around and me not connecting to our family heritage had something to do with my confusion and anger at the time. She recommended that I needed to pay a visit back home-to our cultural place in: Rutooma, Bwizibwera, Uganda, East Africa (Kashari)
Growing up, in my mid-teens, I disagreed with her. I didn't believe my healing journey revival lied in our cultural home. Nonetheless, I got the opportunity to go spend some time with Margaret at her base in: Vancouver, Canada in Spring 2012 and Spring 2016. During our face - to face interactions, she would sit me down and listen to my stories of my past. She encouraged me to start writing down my feelings. I followed her advice - and started documenting my thoughts and channelling my experiences.
At times I'd use materialism and participate in the consumption of conspicuous goods to feel the void I had inside me. She never stopped me in going with these actions. But she'll sit me down and tell me" you do realise you're just running away from your problems, you can't fill that void forever with temporary things"
As I got older-I realised she had a point, so in the Summer of 2022 I finally went back home to our cultural home in Rutooma, Bwizibwera, Uganda, East Africa (Kashari). The day I finally went — her heart was filled with Joy. She was just happy I finally listened to her. I'm probably her longest testimony - because she was very patient with me. Because it took me a decade and some years to finally take on her advice.
Autumn 2022-I came back to Vancouver, Canada to have a review with Margaret about my experience of finally coming back home after 24 years being away. I emphasised the power of her healing stories platform because at times I'll lose touch with her... but she was right.
